How To Prevent Checking And Rechecking Bags

Someone asked me how I can pack so early and be sure I have everything. Someone even suggested a list. I explained I can’t use a list because with my anxiety worry that I may have accidentally marked something that I didn’t actually pack. I have to see everything is there.
So what do I do? I started organizing my my belongings based on what they were for. I used medium sized, clear storage containers. I put everything I need for my face in one container, the body in another, clothing care in another, and so on. After I’ve accumulated the bulk of why I need, I begin to put each group of items into clear cosmetic bags if it’s a group of items with no liquid items like sunglasses and freezer bags if there are any liquids. Freezer bags just in case anything should spill, it doesn’t get all over bag, it only gets on the items in that bag.

The items are separated into very specific groups. My “face” bag has face washes, face lotions, eye drops, lip balms, and anything else I will use on my face that I will not need immediately.

My “body care” bag has floss, travel toothbrushes (I prefer to buy inexpensive toothbrushes that I throw away after trips because of germs), toothpaste (Yes. I realize my mouth is on my face), body lotions, sunscreen, body wash, etc. My “clothing care” bag has a tide pen, wrinkle release, lint rollers, deodorant mark removers (I love these), etc. I have a separate bag for my hair, accessories, and anything else.

I continue to bag all of my emergency items like a rescue inhaler, change of contact lenses and eye drops, and a bag for makeup and a bag for sanitizing the room I’ll be staying in; disinfectant wipes, disinfectant spray, some hand sanitizer, etc. All of these things go in carryon. If I’m flying, I make sure everything that’s in these bags are compliant.

I pack my clothes in a similar way. I pile the clothes first. All similar types of clothing are put together then I pack them when the whole set is ready.

Packing this way is meticulous but it makes me feel secure that I have everything I need and I’m not constantly going back to check to be sure I have what I need and I haven’t forgotten anything. I generally finish packing a week before I have to leave.
